Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Coorlacka

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Coorlacka hides a fairy fort beneath solid ground, depriving modern eyes of the ridge they expect to find. Local tradition preserves the shape of the ringfort even though soil and time erased every visible marker. The land keeps its own advice private, waiting for patience instead of tools.
Local tradition of ringfort. No surface trace visible. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 14 January 2009

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
