O'Mahony castle stood in tillage overlooking Barley Cove before human memory faded its walls. Lewis wrote in 1837 that remains still existed at Lisgriffin, yet no visible trace remains for a stranger to point at. The land may have swallowed the stones, or people may have taken them elsewhere after the castle stopped mattering. A possible underground passage runs west-southwest, giving the forgotten structure one last route into darkness.

In tillage overlooking Barley Cove to W. Possible Man-made underground passage (CO147-023001-) to WSW. Lewis (1837, vol. 2, 180) noted 'Some remains of ancient castles...exist at Lisgriffin'; no visible surface trace. O'Mahony castle (Healy 1988, 204).
