No fairies are required to explain the fort in Cooranuller, though they feature in its name. The earth works are plain: a roughly circular area on the south side of a hillock, enclosed by a scarp rising 1.3m from SE to NNW, with a field boundary completing the east and raised interior compensating for the hillslope. People shaped that grade repeatedly until it held. The fairies may have arrived later, drawn to the trouble and pride already embedded in the soil.
