What is recorded here

Situated on a SW-facing slope in undulating pastureland. Depicted on the 1st ed. OS 6-inch map as a roughly circular area; the latest ed. only depicts the W half. The remaining W half is enclosed by a bank (Wth 3.3m; int. H 0.66m; ext. H 0.44m), a fosse (Wth 3.5m; D 0.74m) and an outer bank (Wth 2m; ext. H 0.6m). The inner bank is reduced to a scarp in the SW quadrant. The outer bank has evidence of internal stone revetment at W. An E-W field bank abutts the bank at S. The E half of the site is not visible at ground level. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Vol. 1 - North Tipperary' compiled by Jean Farrelly and Caimin O'Brien (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2002). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 September 2008
