Mortals built the fort, but the fairies took it back and erased the walls. They rolled the earth into a shallow dish and poured forgetfulness over it, leaving only a grassy bump where human pride once stood. The valley keeps both truths: the shape people made and the shape the fairies remade. Forgetting is not loss when the land remembers in its own tongue.

Situated on a valley floor between drumlins. It is depicted as a small circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 20m) on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described in gothic lettering as a ‘fort’. There is a low circular grass-covered rise (diam. c. 33m; H 1m) but with no defining feature. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986).
