What is recorded here
No fairy ever danced in Cloonoughter. A human hand built the ring, cut the ditch, and left a causeway for entry. Centuries of rain, grass and forgetting did the rest. The fairies appear only because people stopped remembering the builder.
In undulating pasture, on N flank of low rise. Circular area (diam. 30.7m N-S) enclosed by earthen bank (int. H 1.1m; ext. H 1.65m) with external fosse (Wth 2.3m; D 0.8m), with short arc of external bank at NW (int. H 0.75m; ext. H 0.6m). Enclosure bisected, on N-S axis, by farm trackway raised c. 0.3m above level of interior. Section of interior to W of trackway almost entirely obscured by overgrowth of trees, bushes and brambles. At NE is causeway entrance (Wth 1.6m). Field boundary abuts enclosing element at SE.
