Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cloonnagalleen

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Cloonnagalleen hides a forty-metre earthen ring on a south-facing slope, buried beneath decades of thorn, briar and furze. The vegetation has grown so dense that the boundary marked on old surveys has vanished from human sight. What the forest swallowed may still hold its shape beneath the roots, waiting for patience or forgetting to reveal it again.
On S-facing hill slope, covered with dense thicket of thorn, briar and furze bushes. Monument, depicted as roughly circular enclosure on 1923 OS 6-inch map (diam. c. 40m), could not be located in dense overgrowth. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
