Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cloonmore

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible gap or door remains, only a low circular ridge buried in wet grass. The fort has lost its entrance and much of its shape, yet it still marks the exact place where someone built a boundary around their own life.
In low-lying pasture. This raised subcircular area (26.7m N–S; 24.9m E–W) enclosed by a wide low bank of earth and stone (Wth 5.45m; H 0.2m max.) with a very shallow intervening fosse (Wth 3.1m; D 0.1m) and outer bank (Wth 4.4m; H 0.1m) is largely levelled. The original entrance is not recognisable. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 30 November 2011
