What is recorded here

Clooneen holds a grass-covered ringfort on a drumlin near the Bonet and Owenmore rivers. Its low earthen bank circles a space twenty-one metres across, marking a place where people once lived, kept animals, or excluded others from the centre. The fairies may have taken the story, but the earth still preserves the shape of human choice.

Situated on a drumlin close to the junction of the N-S River Bonet which is c. 100m to the NW and the E-W Owenmore River, which is c. 1200m to the S. Grass-covered subcircular area (int. dims 21m NE-SW; 19.5m NW-SE) defined by a low earthen bank (Wth 2m; H 0.2-0.5m) containing some large stones (dims c. 0.7m x 0.5m x 0.5m). An entrance (Wth 4.8m) at E might not be original, and there is no visible fosse. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J.
