Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cloonaduff

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

No visible wall or tower remains, only a shallow circular scar in the grass and a faint broken ditch. That is all the fort still shows, yet the shape is clean enough to see from above and the land has kept it level beside open pasture. People may have stood there to watch the valley, mark a boundary, or simply belong to the neighbourhood before the name changed. What is certain is that the earth remembers the circle even when the story has thinned.
In level pasture with good views in all directions. Present remains consist of a raised roughly circular-shaped area (approx. diam. 28m) defined by a scarp (int. H 0.3m; Wth. 3m) from SW through N to E with traces of an external fosse (base Wth. 2.4m) visible from NW through N to NNE. The fosse has been infilled at N. The interior is level. The outline of the monument is clearly discernible on Google Earth orthoimage taken 2020. See attached Google earth orthoimages taken 14/02/2020 and 18/03/2015 Compiled by: Martin Fitzpatrick Date of upload: 19 June 2020
