Fairy fort in Cloncumber, County Kildare: a 36-metre earthen ring on a low ridge, entrance north, buried under pine trees and field dump while bog circles it. People may have stood inside that circle before kings wrote anything down, watching weather come off the water and asking the dark for permission to live. The forest keeps the shape alive by refusing to show it plainly.

On a low, gently sloped, E-W pasture ridge in an extensively cleared and now huge field, surrounded by bog NW-NE-SE. Described in 1972 as 'a roughly circular ringfort (int. diam. 36m) of platform type, surrounded by a fosse … and traces of a bank (with) an entrance on the N side' (SMR file). The monument stands raised above the surrounding ground (H 1-2m) but is completely planted with pine trees, except along the N perimeter upon which cleared field-material is dumped.
