What is recorded here
Fairy fort in Castlenalact, County Cork: a levelled earthen ringfort, about 40m across, now hidden under pasture on a slight slope. People may have lived there, loved there, raged and bled and forgotten; the earth keeps the shape while memory leaves.
On slight slope, in pasture. Levelled; low rise indicates site (diam. c. 40m).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork. Volume 1: West Cork' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1992). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
