Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cashel

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts in County Carlow were earthen field markers, not magical palaces. People built shallow rings to mark ownership, exclude livestock or shape the land. The flat circular form still visible at Cashel fits that ordinary human purpose.
The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Circular area (diam. 31m) enclosed by partially levelled bank (H 0.1m).

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
