What is recorded here

Clowater Castle vanished before human memory, leaving only a farmyard and a ghost on old maps. What remains is absence made visible: a field where walls once stood, now fed to livestock and forgotten by men. The castle did not fall; it was erased, struck from the world like a name removed from a book.
The following description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Carlow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1993). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Marked 'Site of Castle' on 1839 'OS 6-inch' map. Farmyard on site.

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
