Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cartroncaran is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Cartroncaran, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies the crest of an east-facing slope on a small north-south ridge above a broad plateau. A grass-covered circle measures twenty-five metres east-west and twenty-three point seven metres north-south, bounded by a scarp rising from zero point four to one point nine metres. Two barrows and another rath sit within one hundred and sixty metres, while a field wall crosses the southern interior.
At the crest of the E-facing slope of a small N-S ridge on a broad plateau. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 25m E-W; 23.7m N-S) defined by a scarp (H 0.4m at N to 1.9m at E), although a bank is visible SW-N on aerial photograph (CUCAP: AVI, 27) from the 1970s. There is no visible fosse or entrance. An ENE-WSW field wall overlies the interior towards the perimeter at S. Barrow (RO016-054----) is c. 70m to the NNW, and barrow (RO016-056----) is c. 60m to the S while rath (RO016-057----) is c. 160m to the ENE. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
