Carrickedmond once held a circular fort on a rocky ridge, visible enough for surveyors to draw in 1837 but lost to memory when the field boundary swallowed its western edge. The fort may have watched valleys, sheltered people or marked a boundary now forgotten. What remains is a slope where rock still catches light and the shape of the fort lives only in the line of a fence.

On the SW-facing slope of a low E–W ridge in an area of outcropping rock with good views in all directions. Depicted as a circular enclosure with the designation ‘Fort’ on the 1837 edition of the OS 6-inch map. A report in 1987 (SMR file) noted that apart from a curving field boundary that might mirror the line of the W side of the enclosing element, no visible surface trace of the monument survived.
