Carrickedmond’s fairy fort is a circular earthwork on a high ridge, built with a scarp and a shallow fosse, not a magical palace. Its eastern entrance faced the open valley, allowing people to watch movement below while living inside a defensible ring. The name may reflect later wonder rather than fact, but the shape and position suggest human craft, not fantasy.

On the summit of a high, prominent ridge in pasture. A raised circular area (diam. c. 34m) defined by a scarp (H 0.7m) with evidence of stone-facing in places. At the base of the scarp is a largely infilled fosse (Wth c. 2m; D 0.1m). A report in 1976 (SMR file) recorded that the original entrance was at E. Compiled by: Patrick F.
