Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Cahermoyle

Half a metre of scarped earth still marks the Cahermoyle ringfort, though cattle have worn the northern edge into grass and a public road thunders immediately south. The fort is small enough to circle in a minute, yet it sits below the hill brow like a cupped hand waiting for rain. People may have lived inside that shallow slope, watched the road before cars existed, or abandoned the place when the land changed. The fairy name suggests they stopped believing it was human, which is often what happens when a house outlives its people.
