What is recorded here

Fairy forts are often the discarded homes of visible people, renamed only after they stopped being useful. This is a ringfort, not a fairy fort, though both names describe the same human act of shaping earth into a boundary. The chamber should fit that distinction: a place where people drew a line around their own life, and the line remained after they left.

In rolling pasture. Depicted as hachured circular enclosure (diam. c. 50m) on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; circular area (c. 34m E-W; c. 32m N-S) defined by low rise (H 0.35m) to S, W and N; scarp to E. Interior slopes gently down to E. Curve in field boundary to W incorporates remains of second earthen bank (H 1.2m; Wth at top 1.8m). Recorded by Bowman (1934, 584) as levelled single-ramparted fort (diam. c. 29yd) on P. Mullane's land, with c. one-sixth of rampart remaining in field boundary. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
