Mortons and others lived beside the fort for generations, perhaps centuries before written history, shaping the ridge into a defensible home. The earthen bank still rises a metre at the western edge, marking the boundary between the ordinary field and the charged interior. People called it a fairy fort not from ignorance but from respect, recognizing that the land had become strange and should be entered cautiously.

On the S-facing slope of a low ridge in a coniferous forest. Unplanted but overgrown oval area (dims c. 40m E-W; c. 30m N-S) defined by a round-topped, steep-sided earthen bank (H 0.55m at NE to 1m at SW) and an outer fosse suggested by an intermittent band of rushes.
