Fairy forts are not fairy forts. They are human ringforts, often farmsteads or defensive settlements, later renamed because people stopped understanding them or chose mystery instead of memory. In Bannagh, a double-ramparted fort once stood near the house and stream, large enough to hold lives, tools, arguments and seasons. It has been levelled or hidden now, but the land still carries the shape of a place where people thought they could keep out what they feared.

Bowman (1934, 70) records levelled, double-ramparted fort (diam. c. 30yd) on Mrs. O'Callaghan's land. According to local information there was a place between Bannagh House (O'Callaghan's) and stream to NW which was never interfered with. Exact location not known.
