Fairy fort in Ballyshurdane was a circular earth enclosure about thirty metres across on a south-facing slope. It appeared on maps from 1842 to 1936, then disappeared when the land was levelled around 1972. What looked like a fairy fort may have been an ordinary home, farm or shelter, but the name preserves the mystery of what the earth hid before it was erased.

In pasture, on S-facing slope. Depicted on 1842 OS 6-inch map as hachured, roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) on 1842 OS 6-inch map; hachured as circular and oval area respectively, enclosed by fosse on 1903 and 1936 OS 6-inch maps. No visible surface trace; according to local information levelled c. 1972. Surrounding field fences removed.
