Church in Baunnanooneeny

In NW corner of burial ground (14072) within small rectangular enclosure (c. 12.2m N-S; c. 12m E-W). Low grass-covered mounds of stones, possibly forming rectangular structure (int.: c. 8.4m E-W; c. 5.4m N-S) noted. Larger enclosure roughly rectangular in shape, defined by low grass-covered bank of earth and stone. Grove White (1905-25, vol. 1, 10) was informed locally that burial ground 'was the place where St. Molaga erected his first church in that district.' Hillock on which burial ground stands known as 'Knockanewin' (ibid., vol. 4, 244), which Grove White equates with Tulach Mhin (ibid., 243), founded by St Molaga; he noted 'signs of the foundation of the old church.'
