Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballyroe West

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy fort in Ballyroe West, County Limerick: an earthen ringfort reduced to a shallow bank and wide fosse on a north-west slope, its circle still readable in grass and shadow. Humans may have lived there before ploughs and pasture softened the rest; the earth kept the shape while memory left.
In pasture, on a NW-facing slope. Enclosure, visible as circular cropmark on aerial photograph (LAS), now evident as circular area defined SW-NE by bank (int. H 0.45m; ext. H 0.6m) with external fosse (Wth 4m; D 0.8m); otherwise enclosing element has been levelled. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011 See attached ASI aerial photographs ASIAP – taken on 04/03/2006.
