What is recorded here
Mortals built the Ballynort ringfort, but the fairies took it back. They stripped the walls, scattered the stones and drowned the yard in briars. The fort is gone, yet it is also everywhere in that ridge. Under the scrub, the chamber waits. Behind the bushes, the doors remain open. The fairies did not destroy the fort. They finished it. They removed every part a human could use and kept the shape alive.
In scrub, atop limestone ridge. Monument, depicted on 1923 OS 6-inch map as embanked circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m), could not locate in dense overgrowth of briars and bushes which covers ridge.
