Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballynoe (pubblebrien By.)

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are not fairy forts at all. They are human ringforts, misnamed because people stopped remembering the humans who built them. Ballynoe is one of them: a small earth wall, a home, a boundary, a life lived sharply enough to be forgotten. The field has taken it back. That is not loss. That is the region speaking plainly.
Situated on a slight rise in open, gently rolling pasture, immediately E of a mettled farm track. The monument, depicted on the 1924 OS 6-inch map as a sub-circular enclosure (diam. c. 20m) has been levelled and was not evident when inspected. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 27 March 2013

The monument record does not grant public access. Check the route and ask the landowner before entering private land.
