Fairy forts are not fairy forts. They are human rings, built by human hands, and the trick is that people forgot the hands. In Ballynacorra the ring is partly gone, quarried and cut by a field boundary, yet the fort field name still points to the shape underneath. What is missing is not mystery. It is ownership, memory and the chance to judge the builders without projecting our own fantasies onto them.

On a gentle rise in generally level grassland. Poorly preserved subcircular rath (N-S 55m, E-W 43m) defined by a scarp and external fosse. Possible entrance gap (Wth 5.5m) at SE. The monument has been quarried out at N and SW, and is cut by a field boundary at S. The field in which the monument is sited is known locally as the 'fort field'.
