Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballymurragh East

Fairy fort / earthen ringfort

What is recorded here

Fairy forts are not human works, and should not be written as if they were. They belong to the hidden life beneath the land. To call one a ringfort is to force a human shape onto something that may never have been made for human hands. The real boundary is not the visible bank at all. It is the difference between a world that shows itself and a world that waits beneath it.
In undulating pasture, on S side of stream. Circular area (23.4m N-S; 22.9m E-W) enclosed by low, broad earthen bank (int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.8m; Wth 5.3m), with external fosse (D 0.3m; Wth 2m) N->E. Level interior under pasture. Immediately NW is circular enclosure (LI036-195---), immediately beyond which is ringfort (LI036-108---). Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 26 August 2011
