Fairy fort in Ballymartin, County Carlow, is a circular earthwork with a well-preserved bank and wet outside ditch, likely ancient though never clearly dated. Its northwest gap may be original, and faint stone traces still cling to the inner bank. People may have lived, hidden or marked territory there before forgetting the name. The field keeps the shape even when memory leaves.

In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Circular area (diam. 22m) enclosed by well preserved bank (inner H c. 1.5m, outer H 2m) with external, wet fosse. Gap at NW may be original. Traces of stone facing on inner face of bank at NW. S part of interior covered with dump of stones and soil.

A fairy fort, or earthen ringfort, in Ballymartin is a circular earthwork typical of early-medieval Ireland, likely dating to between the 5th and 10th centuries. Local tradition associates such sites with fairy folk, and they were often avoided for fear of disturbing supernatural inhabitants.
