What is recorded here

Mortons has a hidden chamber beneath a ordinary field. The chamber has a narrow entrance and a short passage. It is not a cave. Human hands built it. The chamber is small enough to walk through and large enough to hide a room. A chamber this deliberate does not appear by chance. Someone dug it, shaped it and closed it behind them. The field has changed since then. The chamber has not.

In pasture, on NW-facing slope. Circular, heavily-overgrown area (32.5m E-W) enclosed by earthen bank (H 1.3m), with external fosse (D 0.5m) SW->NNW. Narrow gaps in bank to ENE and SE. Rubble dumped in interior. Man-made underground passage (CO136-090002-) in interior. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
