Balllylangy House

Detached five-bay two-storey country house, built c.1780, having recent hipped roofed porch to side (south). Pitched slate roof having rendered eaves course, chimneystacks and cast-iron and uPVC rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls having rendered plinth, rendered sill bands to ground and first floors of front elevation. Square-headed window openings with stone sills, having six-over-six pane timber sliding sash windows to rear (west) elevation and first floor of front (east) elevation. One-over-one pane timber sliding sash windows to ground floor of front elevation with occasional replacement timber casement and uPVC casement windows to rear and side (north, south) elevations. Round-headed door opening with timber doorcase to front elevation, having engaged capped Doric columns on rendered plinths surmounted by open bedded pediment and rendered reveals. Double-leaf timber panelled door with limestone stepped approach, surmounted by fanlight. Complex of former agricultural outbuildings to rear (west) forming courtyard. Comprising L-plan four and two-bay single storey block with recent lean-to addition to side (south) and six-bay two-storey and three-bay single-storey blocks with pitched corrugated-iron roofs. Located within own grounds, having rubble limestone boundary walls with splayed entrance, rendered walls with platband and square-profile gate piers with replacement gates.

Located within its own extensive grounds, this fine house displays a well-proportioned, symmetrically arranged façade and is an imposing feature in the surrounding rural landscape. Typical of its time, ornamentation is concentrated on the excellent doorcase. The retention of a complex of associated outbuildings adds to its context and setting.
