Fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Ballyea ((connello Lower By.)

Ballyea holds a thirty-metre earthen ring on a north-facing ridge, joining two other forts within a kilometre. The scarp and fosse still mark a causewayed entrance at the northeast, suggesting a small defended settlement rather than a passing fairy tale. Grass has reclaimed the interior, but the earthwork remains clear enough to walk around and imagine the hands that shaped it.
