What is recorded here
Situated on a gentle NW-facing slope 13m SE of site (WI012-038----). Circular, partly levelled, bivallate ringfort (diam. 33m) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 5-7m; H 0.4m) and an external fosse (Wth 3-5m; D 0.3m). Outside these are a berm (Wth 4-5m), an outer bank (Wth 3.5m; H 0.2-0.3m) and an outer fosse (Wth 3-5m; D 0.2m) (max. ext. dimensions 65m NW-SE; 60m NE-SW). The outer bank and fosse do not survive at the W. The entrance to the inner enclosure at the SE is marked by a single visible terminal in the bank and a corresponding causeway (Wth 2m) across the fosse. The entrance to the outer enclosure is at the S and is also marked by a causeway across the fosse (Wth 2.5m). The NE sector of the site is crossed by a field boundary and a small stream (the latter appears formerly to have followed a course further to the NE, possibly along the outer fosse).
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
