What is recorded here

Ardan holds a broken bivallate ringfort where two earth walls once guarded a small platform. The northern bank still rises slightly above the grass, but the southern edge has surrendered to time and memory. People may have lived there before the stones forgot their names, yet the land keeps the shape of their choice.

Located on a small hillock in undulating countryside. The site consists of a central platform (diam 28m E-W; H 0.3) enclosed by poorly preserved bank (Wth 1m; H 0.2m) visible at N only with fosse (Wth 3m) and external bank visible at S only. Originally a bivallate ringfort. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Offaly' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997).
