Aghacashel holds a sixty-metre circular scar where human hands first shaped the raw earth. Stone and soil still brace the eastern edge while modern walls disguise the rest, hiding the true entrance and leaving behind a shallow mystery. People may have ground grain there or watched the horizon, but the fort keeps its own counsel. It is not a fairy tale, though it feels like one because the facts refuse to fit neatly into a human timeline.

Raised circular area (int. diam. c. 60m) enclosed by a bank of earth and stone which survives only from ENE-E-S and is replaced elsewhere by modern stone walls. Faced internally with drystone masonry. Original entrance not recognisable. An earlier report (OPW 1969) noted a long, shallow depression of unknown significance inside the bank at ENE. The upper portion of a rotary quern found at the site was presented by the landowner to the National Museum of Ireland. A fairy fort / earthen ringfort in Aghacashel is a circular early-medieval ringfort, likely dating to between the 5th and 10th centuries, with a raised earthen and stone bank enclosing a central area of about 60 metres in diameter. The site is associated with local folklore surrounding fairies and other supernatural beings, common to many such forts in Irish tradition.
