Excavation

Archaeological excavations in 1997 revealed a number of pits and isolated features, such as post holes (O'Donovan 2001, 21). The pits appear to have been utilised for a variety of functions such as to obtain clay for house building or pottery manufacture and subsequently filled with rubbish and human waste (21-22).
