What is recorded here

Kilgobban enclosed a levelled fort on an east-facing slope, visible only on an 1842 map and later recalled by Bowman. It is absent now, yet the distinction matters: a fort can be forgotten by people and still be remembered by the shape of the ground.

In pasture, on brow of E-facing slope. Depicted as hachured slightly oval enclosure (diam. c. 15m x c. 18m) on 1842 OS 6-inch map. Levelled; no visible surface trace. May be levelled single-ramparted fort (diam. c. 32yd) recorded by Bowman (1934, 18) on R. Howell's land. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Cork.
