Enclosure in Garryduff (coonagh By.) — Report the wrong picture

A later field boundary cut a wound through the ancient enclosure, yet the sub-rectangular earthwork still holds its shape on the flat pasture. It resists erasure because human hands kept returning to that exact spot, perhaps to mark ownership or simply to remember the boundary between worlds. The enclosure does not need a date to be real; it needs a witness.

On flat pasture 18m N of the townland boundary with Castlelloyd. The enclosure is within the field system (LI024-222----) and 100m ESE of enclosure (LI024-211----). The enclosure is not depicted on OSi historic maps, but is visible as a sub-rectangular earthwork on the OSi orthoimage taken 2005-12 and on the Digital Globe orthoimages taken 2011-2013. Identified by Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 21 AP 4/3621) as a sub-rectangular enclosure (ext. dims. c. 32m N-S; 29m E-S). The site is bisected by a later relic field boundary that cuts through the site on a NW-SE axis. The enclosure shares the orientation of the field system (LI024-222----). The enclosure is visible on Google Earth orthoimage taken 18/11/2018.
