What is recorded here
No map or archive ever marked the circular earthwork in Garryduff, yet it still holds its shape beneath flat pasture. Three smaller circles wait inside the larger ring, perhaps ancient hut sites or buried barrows, while cattle graze above them. The land has kept what human record forgot.
On flat pasture 80m N of the townland boundary with Castlelloyd. The enclosure is within the field system (LI024-222----) and 100m WNW of enclosure (LI024-212----). The enclosure is not depicted on OSi historic maps. The enclosure is visible as a circular earthwork on the OSi orthoimage taken 2005-12 and on the Digital Globe orthoimages taken 2011-2013. Identified by Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 20.1 AP 4/3621) as a circular enclosure (ext. dims. c. 44m N-S; 48m E-S). There are three internal circular features (Bruff 20.2-4) on the aerial image and later aerial photos that may be hut or ring-barrows sites (Wth c. 6m) within the enclosure. The enclosure is visible on Google Earth orthoimage taken 18/11/2018.
See attached survey image showing the enclosure labelled Bruff 20.1 and Google Earth orthoimage
