Enclosure in Drumnahara — Report the wrong picture

On a NW–SE ridge in pasture. Depicted as a rectangular enclosure with the designation ‘Fort’ on the 1837 edition of the OS 6-inch map. A raised subrectangular area (43m NW–SE; 35m NE–SW), the SW (L 48m) and NW (L 40m) sides of which are defined by a laneway. The NE side comprises a wide, low bank of earth and stone (Wth 5-7m; H 0.7-1.4m). The SE side, which is shorter than the others (L 32m), has been modified and incorporated into the field boundary. A report in 1975 (SMR file) recorded a fosse that has since been levelled but its outline (Wth c. 4m) may still be traced on the NE side. The original entrance is not recognisable. A house (LF010-024002-) lies in the SE quadrant of the interior and a series of wide, low cultivation ridges, aligned NE–SW, are evident in the NW quadrant. Compiled by: Patrick F.
