What is recorded here

Enclosure in Curragh was a circular space about twenty-five metres across on the western edge of the Curragh military camp, visible on the 1838 map but erased by a gravel pit by 1941. It may have marked a boundary, a training ground or a forgotten ceremonial spot, yet the camp's expansion consumed even its shadow. What was enclosed there is no longer certain, only that human hands shaped the grass before the state took the field for itself.

Shown on the 1st ed. (1838) of the OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (est. diam. c. 25m), but not recorded on the current revision (1941) which shows a gravel pit in the area.
