What is recorded here

Enclosure in Cross (coonagh By.) is a rectangular earthwork 32m long and 28m wide on a north-facing slope in County Limerick. It sits beside a possible ringfort in rough wet pasture, visible in some aerial photographs but absent from historic mapping and later satellite images. The enclosure may have marked a home, a boundary or a forgotten ritual place, yet rain, grass and time have erased most of its shape.
On a slightly raised area, on N-facing slope, in rough wet pasture. Possible ringfort (LI024-058----) lies c. 5m to NE. Not depicted on OS historic mapping. Identified as a rectangular-shaped enclosure on Bruff Survey aerial photographs (Bruff 109: AP4/3676). Monument is visible as a rectangular-shaped earthwork (32m NW-SE; 28m NE-SW) on Digital Globe orthophotos taken 2011-13 and is not visible on Google Earth orthoimages taken 28/06/2018. See attached Bruff Survey aerial photograph and Google Earth orthoimage Compiled by: Alison McQueen and Vera Rahilly Date of upload: 17 July 2020
