Enclosure in Castletowncooley

The following description is derived from both the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986) and the 'Archaeological Survey of County Louth' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1991). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 17 July 2007 Sub-circular enclosure (max. dims. 38.5m N-S, 32m E-W) surrounded by grass covered drystone masonry wall, with outward kink at NE. To NE of enclosure is a natural ledge, possibly stone-faced, forming an arc of a circle. Both sites known locally as 'lioses'. (OS Memoranda 6912 A, B; 6913 A, B)
