Enclosure in Ballytrasna

On a gentle WNW-facing slope, in the foothills of Knockseefin, in reclaimed pasture. Enclosure (LI024-143004-) immediately to SW and enclosures (LI024-143001-/002-) lie 25m to E and 55m to W, respectively. Not depicted on OS historic mapping. Monument identified by the Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 73(02): AP 4/3681) as a subrectangular-shaped earthwork which is defined by a land drain running WNW-ESE, to SW. Monument is visible as a rectangular-shaped earthwork (approx. dims. 60m NW-SE; 55m NE-SW) on Digital Globe orthophotos taken 2011-13 and a vague trace on Google Earth orthoimages taken 25/03/2017. Linear earthworks in this field may be related to post-1700 land reclamation and may not be the remains of an archaeological enclosure.
