Enclosure in Ballynevin

Enclosure

What is recorded here

On flat-topped summit of E-W ridge in gently undulating terrain, under pasture. A levelled enclosure (TS077-092----) is located immediately to the W and another enclosure (TS078-045----) is located c. 80m to the E. This enclosure is not depicted on the 1st (1840) or 2nd (1904) ed. OS 6-inch maps. It was identified during field survey. A levelled enclosure, discernible as an oval area (diam. 34.5m N-S; 21.6m E-W) with a dished interior defined by edge of ridge to N and S and by a very broad, flattened bank to W (int. H 0.05m; ext. H 0.12m; Wth 3.8m) and a slight external fosse (Wth 2.3m; D 0.16m). There is a large quarry immediately to the E which appears to have encroached upon the monument and may have damaged the E quadrant. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 5 January 2015
