Enclosure in Ballynagall Little

Situated on a low hill with extensive views to the N, E & S. Country house marked on OS 6-inch map as 'Gaulstown' located 220m to NNE. An irregularly shaped raised area (approx. diam. 30m N-S) defined by a poorly preserved earthen bank visible at NE & SW only, elsewhere reduced to a scarp, with short segment of external fosse visible at SE only. The monument platform and the area around the site has been subjected to quarrying in the past. The S sector of the site has been partially quarried away. The grass-covered wall footings of a long rectangular house site (WM003-058001-) possibly of 17th century date, occupies most of the interior of the ringfort. Another sub-rectangular platform in the S quadrant of the interior may represent a second hut site. The enclosing element of this earthwork may be contemporaneous with the house site and could be represent a small courtyard or paddock around the house.
