Embanked enclosure

Marked as a rectangular embanked or moated enclosure only on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map and located in a low-lying landscape. This is a slightly raised rectangular area (dims. 45m N–S; 40m E–W) defined by a field bank at N, a scarp at W and E and and traces of fosse (L 21m; D 0.7m) at S. A cereal crop had been harvested on it in 1987. Enclsoure (WX020-018----) is immeidately to the S. (Barry 1977, 224, WX 88) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996).
