What is recorded here
Embanked enclosure is a fairy fort or earthen ringfort in Knockadangan, County Roscommon, Ireland. It occupies the bottom of a southeast-facing slope as a circular grass and scrub-covered area measuring thirty-four and a half metres east-west and thirty-three point seven metres north-south. An overgrown earthen bank four point five to seven point two metres wide surrounds the centre, although quarrying removed parts of the bank and destroyed sections of the surrounding fosse.
Towards the bottom of a SE-facing slope. Circular grass and scrub-covered area (diam. 34.5m E-W; 33.7m N-S) defined by an overgrown but poached earthen bank (Wth 4.5-7.2m; int. H 0.3-0.6m; ext. H 0.8-1.95m), with a fosse (Wth of top 4.6m; Wth of base 2.4m; D 1m) NW-NE and S-SSW. The fosse is destroyed by quarrying NE-S and backfilled SSW-NW. The bank is quarried N-NNE where an entrance (Wth 2.5m) and causeway are recorded (Gannon 1972).
