Embanked enclosure

Marked as a rectangular embanked or moated enclosure (ext. dims. c. 52m E-W; c. 45m N-S) on the 1839 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and located on a broad plateau. This is a rectangular grass-covered area (dims. 32m N-S: 30m E-W) with the perimeter defined by field banks and hedges at the E and S and the remains of a moat (Wth 11-13m; int. D 0.8m) at the W and N, with a counterscarp bank at N. (Barry 1977, 219, WX 45) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wexford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1996).
