What is recorded here
Located in pasture on a plateau. Marked as a rectangular embanked enclosure (ext. dims. c. 45m NE-SW; c. 45m NW-SE) incorporating field banks at SW and NW on the 1840 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. This is a raised, subcircular, grass and fern-covered area (dims. 39m N-S; 35m E-W) defined by an overgrown earthen bank (Wth 4.5-6m; int. H 1-1.5m; ext. H 2.5-3.5m) SE-NNE and a scarp (H 1m) elsewhere. An outer flat-bottomed fosse (Wth of top 8-10m; Wrth of base 3.8-5.5m; D 1-2.2m) survives SSW-N. There is no visible entrance, but the perimeter is skirted by field banks at SW and NW.
The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research.
